New FASA Z1 Nova mesh finished.
« on: July 31, 2003, 02:02:10 am »
Except for smoothing of course.

The mesh is a little over 3600 polys.  I still have to do textures and smooth it.  Then there is the break mesh and damage.

thought you all would like to see what I have slowly been working on.

Excellent work!

She looks to be a very accurate representation of the Nova.

She stands among the best looking original FASA Ships.

Bearslayer, you beat me to it on the stats for the Z-1. LOL BTW, I have a chunk of Atrahasis' FASA to SFC stats if you are interested.

Nice job Heaven's Eagle!  Another fine addition to the FASA to SFC collection.

Qapla!

This is a really impressive model! I can't wait to see the finished work! Did you use Booleans orwhat to connect the shapes on the primary hull?

Lots of Booleans and modified shapes.  Used outlines of the FASA drawings and basically laid out one side and mirrored it.  For some things I also used the miniature that I aquired a while back.  In addition I have been working on a tileset for Neverwinter Nights based on one of the old Spelljammer stuff from D&D. Have been learning a lot with doing that.

As a side I have been using Max 5.1 on this and it really works much better than the earlier versions.  Still getting unrusty on parts of it.

For grins here are the shots of the Nautiloid I am doing for Neverwinter Nights.

A little description:
The 2 levels shown are the "Slave Deck" and "Cargo Deck with forward Battle Deck". The green areas are the overhead disappearing items. For scale there is a little blue Arabeth figure on the forward Battle Deck.
Enjoy.

I am not really sure of the total polys on this so far but it makes the Nova seem like a minor object.

Thanks for the Z1 reply Bearslayer.  Saved me having to do the scan and post.

Unfortunately, I think I have those stats and I didn't really care for them.

I think there were to over powered for most of the ships.

Did I miss the Downloading party yet? LOL.

Currently, I am only aware of two other Z-1 Nova's and one retextured one,  I will be very happy to add this fine ship to the FASA to SFC Collection

Actually the easy part (the 3D modeling) is done.  Putting the textures on isn't too bad, but making the textures can be a real pain.

P81 always did some nice textures and I visited with him about how he did them many moons ago.  Thus I have forgotten what he tried to tell me.

Noticed a post by Smiley the other day where he showed a pic of the Chimera.  Sent an e-mail asking for some samples and suggestions to help me get started.  Have not heard back from him.  That is mainly what finishing the NOVA is going to hinge on.  Have not done much good quality texturing, and some samples with a little "how to" can go a long way.

Thread for Chimera

Hopefully he will at least reply.  Can only wait and see.
