My sound is terrible, please help
« on: February 03, 2003, 09:21:52 pm »
System specs:

Athlon xp1600
512 MB Micron DDR pc2100
Soundblaster PCI 512 - latest drivers installed
GeForce 3 Ti 200  Detonator 54.20 (or somewhere around there, latest detonators didn't work, so I installed old ones)

The sound is full of static and distorted, not sure what the problem is.  Any advice would help lots.  I tried installing DirectX 9, but that just made the game say "you don't have DirectX 8.1 or newer version" upon trying to load past the opening movie.

Did you install the Directx 9 fix patch?

First off you need to download the SFC3 DirectX9 patch to use DirectX9 properly with SFC3. Try http://www.starfleetcommand3.net/

My sound sucks too, but the comp that's got the problem is too old for me to spend any time on. I'm just curious as to the problem.  Anyway, if I've been playing for a while, like more than an hour, the sound gets crackly, and the view gets jerky.  I know the thing's got a memory leak that I don't know how to fix.  Things get jerky when there are too many big ships on (more than 3), but that's because it's just slow I think.
Specs:
400 MHz Celeron
256 Megs RAM
ATI Rage integrated video
generic(?) sound, if anyone knows what HP stuck in their 4455's let me know, I can't find any names in the box

As a side note, I loaded SFC3 on this system, and although it ran, the cursor moved like every 20 seconds!  I know the box said 450MHz or faster with 3d acceleration, but geez!  400 w/o 3D isn't reccommended.  Took FOREVER to get out of it!  But it didn't crash Long live Win98!
