SENSE OF HUMOR ALERT:

Damn it WZ45!

You weren't supposed to show off the studio model yet!

Now I have to go back and take care of all those legal entanglements you've created... Jeez!

Well, at least you haven't shown off the latest Romulan and Klingon you are in possession of!

Nope its not only you, when the picture was coming up, i thought it was a picture of the USS Enterprise, like the real one seen in the movies, then I saw the engines and I knew quickly it was a model but the saucer looks real good

It's supposed to be more detailed - it tends to get that way when half the polygon count is in the saucer section alone. You can't see in the pics, but I tried to balance that out with more texture detailing on the rest of the model. I based her very closely on the Nemesis edition of the Enterprise and even it tends to have most of the detail crammed into the saucer, it just doesn't look as obvious because everything else is modeled, without the limits that textures have.

I think you spent the polies in exactly the right places.

Outstanding model and textures  WZ!

yes he quite did, and I wasnt whining, I was just asking if my eyes were seeing it wrong
...though i still would like to see more detail on  the rest of this ship -as in by having additional
details of texture, i tihnk there are some tidbits you might want to add

Speaking of detailing, the windows blow me away. The illusion of something behind them is almost as good as when you do put details inside of the ship.

I don't plan on adding anything else as it's already been posted and I happen to like it as is

I included as many details as possible that are on the Big-E, the only notable exception is that my details aren't 100% accurate. I'm not one for doing full-canon ships for various reasons, i.e., lack of references, lack of time, and lack of (in)sanity so the closest I bother with are refits and variants.

Just for the sake of argument though:

Like I said, the detailing is subtle and, like on the Enterprise, requires just the right lighting to be noticeable. Rip off the lights, escape pods, and modeled phaser strips (yes, I was crazy enough to actually model those), and the saucer is as barren as the rest of the hull. Then again, I do have different opinions regarding how a ship should look, being a certifiable perfectionist and all. Of course, I don't have any objections to someone altering this beaut, just as long as they follow the guidelines on DRS, so if someone wants to slap a dozen escape pods and fifty photon tubes on 'er, feel free.

I'd never accuse you of whining Mackie.  My comments were aimed at WZ's statement regarding most of the detail being directed toward the saucer.

We know whining when we see it

And only 50 photon tubes?  What about cloak, or phase cloak?  What about quantum slipstream torpedoes or temporal hemmoroidal ones?  Shouldn't it be at least as powerful as the Defiant?  What do you mean the Defiant shouldn't exist?  It wouldn't be able to generate the power to ......  I guess I digress....

Okay. Nice, very nice. Can I ask what size textures you're using? I thought that this computer would be good to go against newer models, but the saucer textures from your Sovereign demonstrated otherwise.

I guess what I'm getting around to is asking for 512x512s for the saucer if they're larger than that. I made an effort to buy an appropriate art program, only to be informed that it's unwise use of my money (translation: the folks said no)...

One more year, and I'll be free to blow my wealth on booze and girls...

...or maybe not.

Only a handful of the textures for this ship are in the 1024 size range, the rest are smaller. You don't need a fancy paint program to resize them to a more suitable scale. If you have MS Paint (or something similar that came with your PC), just go to the Image menu, hit stretch/skew, and type in 50% for the values in the stretch lines.
