turned off personal firewall, still can't connect to d2
« on: February 03, 2003, 01:27:32 am »
Well, I turned off my firewall to see if that was the problem connecting to D2.  It wasn't.  So anyone got any suggestions why I can't connect to D2.  Running with ADSL, so connect speed should not be the problem.  Have no problem connecting to D3 or on GSA so what's up. When I do get onto a D2 server, I get the interface and can click to various panels but the map, supply, etc.  do not fill in with anything and in a bit says I have lost connection to server.  Thanks for any suggestions.

If a firewall was the problem then you would not get to a server at all. Firewalls don't block you on some days and not others. You may have been trying to access the campaign selecter when the server which has this campaign list is down. That will also show as a possible firewall error (but isn't).

I wonder if your 2002 to 2036 upgrade worked correctly. Confirm that when you start EAW it has 2.0.3.6 as the version number oin the bottom right corner of the title screen.

Coincidentally or otherwise, I had trouble getting OP D2 to work during the last few days. I had SFC3 installed and running D3 fine on my newly-built system (using the proper router port forwarding), but when I did a fresh install and patch of OP, I found that neither D2 nor D3 would connect. I finally did get through to D3 this weekend, but OP D2 is still not coming up.

Anyone have a few hints?

I remember hearing of a case where people in multiplayer using a LinkSys with a specific firmware version would drop after 30 seconds into a game (this bug affected Quake II and SFC2, apparently).  A firmware update fixed it.  I hear a number of people are having an issue similar to this; let me know if a firmware update or a settings change on your DSL model fixes it.  I have a SDSL line and I have had no problems with Dyna2 or Dyna3; using Windows XP Pro SP1.

What's weird is that I can get into the D2 server because I can see different starting prestige numbers from the different servers, but nothing else updates and I lose connection.  Yet, it could just be that the D2 server sends me one file in a way that is different from connecting to the rest of the server. It really seems that I cannot connect to the chat server, map server and such.   When I check my internet activity level, it seems that nothing is coming in from the net,  but I seem to be sending packets out.   Is there anyway to confirm that?

It also seems that with SFC3 there are 3 seperate programs running for the D3 to work:  starfleet commmand, sfc3, and dpnsrv.  Is there a similar set for SFC2 as I have never seen anything running but SFC2 when I try to connect to D2?

By the way, I am running Windows 98SE, with an ADSL connection using a PPPoE protocol.
