Klingon D-2 WIP
« on: July 22, 2003, 01:10:07 pm »
Been working on this for a couple of days, in between other projects. My Rom Cabbage is on hold for a few days...need to completely re-work the textures.

This time I left the D-2 gray. Kinda tough to model cause the pics at SFM don't show the bottom and are hard to tell the hull profile. I'm trying to use some new techniques, and I think it's working out so far, looks better than I thought it would.

Here's a couple of pics:

Very nice indeed!
You might wanna delete the stray textured polys at the aft of the ship below the untextured yellow mesh tho...hehe

So do tell, what new techniques did you try out?

Can never have too many Klingon ships! This one looks great so far, a nice addition to the D-5.

Ain't it amazin' what you find wrong when you start to texture? Noticed that myself, and will fix later...my eyes hurt, lol. As to techniques, I'm trying to figure out how to get the UVWunwrap to make a template thingy trick down right now. I think I got it, but haven't done anymore on this one yet...tried it out on the Cabbage and I'm pretty happy with it...see that thread for pics.
Also trying to do it in Photoshop; PSP7 is easier, but there's more options with PS and I need all the help I can get.lol

Thanx!! When I get better at texturing, I might replace it with another one, but it's the best looking ship I've released, thanx to your texturing.

Almost finished with her. Just need to re-model and texture the hump in the back...had to remove it due to errors. Also, the 2 humps that are there (impulse reactors?) couldn't decide what colors to do the glows, so did front red, rear green. Any suggestions?

Here's the pics:

Actually it was a hideously bloated underpowered behemoth that could have been easily wiped out by a fighter from before the romulan war but anyway...

BTW Sandman, those 2 humps are the equivalent of the large cuboid hump on the top of the D7 engineering hull, if you look at Masao's D2, D3, D4, D5 and D6 you can see it gradually evolves into that block, but it's not the impulse exhaust, on the K'T'inga it's actually the shuttlebay, the impulse reactor on the D2 is where you already have those yellow glows, I would suggest doing it like on the schematics, the front black like an intake (I know it's not really) and the back, black with the grey hump in the middle.

The textures are a definite improvement on the D5 ones IMO but they seem to fed-white to me, I would suggest you select all the basic grey aztec and use the brightness tool to lower it to a much darker grey, much darker, but the pattern looks nice and fairly subtle, very nice work on that.

It is evolving very nicely Sandman.

As to the two humps....

To quote Masao in an email concerning this ship.

"You mean those two hotdog bun looking things on the back?  I don't know, they just look cool."
