2.5.4.10 Bug--Disappearing fighters
« on: July 23, 2003, 09:28:58 pm »
Installed the new patch over a fresh install of OP, with Firesoul's latest shiplist.

Playing singleplayer D2...I start as Hydran, play a few missions, buy a H-WAR.  Since I've got a few PP to spare, I buy two of the most expensive fighters--Wasp, i believe--28 PP each.

Go back to map, start the next mission.  Go to Red Alert, close with enemy, go to launch fighters...and the fighters aren't there!  All my ship shows up with is it's two shuttles.

Win mission, go back to supply screen...sure enough, fighters are gone.  I buy them AGAIN, move a hex, start next mission...yep, you guessed it.  Fighters gone, again.

This patch is so good otherwise, and fixes so much...Hydran is myfavorite race, and this bug makes them UNPLAYABLE.  Is there a fix on the horizon for this?

are you playing with a shortcut to the .EXE?
.. is the working directory present in the shortcut? (check the top of the 25410 readme.)

Hmm, did you click "Done" after buying fighters? I seem to recall that being an issue way back. However, I'm really out of my element here since it's been at least a year since I played Dynaverse.

I just played Hydran and had my fighters. It might be the particular ship, try another. Making sure you pressed done is important. If it was the shortcut problem FS, he wouldn't even be able to buy fighters as the selection button would be greyed out.

1. Do fighters show up for stock shiplists?

2. Are you using a starfleetop.exe shortcut? and if yes, did you observe this caution? (in readme.txt, "Important Note: Make sure that the properties of your Orion Pirates desktop shortcut shows the Target of your game pointing to the StarfleetOP.exe file and that the Start In path is correct for your game install directory. ")

3. Do any other races have this problem?

Just played with the same exact ship in SP D2, H-WAR. Fighters were there.

Thanks everyone.  There was nothing in the "Start In" field--it was BLANK.

When I filled it in with C:/Program Files...and then tried again, fighters!

Weird that something like that should cause only a problem with fighters.  Ah well, it's fixed.  Must now get back to annexing the Klingons into the Hydran Empire :

The same problem plagued me in OP for about a year until someone finally set me straight.

Somewhere along the line, this went awry.  I had fighters in OP...and then all of the sudden, I stopped having fighters.  Never had the problem in EAW, so I wasn't sure what could have been wrong.

This is not, I repeat NOT, an attack on anyone, but it seems that people are very quick to toss out the phrase "...it makes the game unplayable." Just something I noticed.

I've had a similar problem with Kzinti in a EaW Advanced campaign.

I Have 3 Frigates ... in supply I fully kit them up with drones.

In action, only my comand ship has any
