A few comments. AcePylut, have you played OP on Game Spy ever? I went out and bought EAW because:
1. No one on GSA was ever playing anything but advanced era.
2. There is and continues to be little D2 support or support of any kind for the title.
If the majority of people did not feel slighted by OP, then why didn't they buy it? Answer: they didn't want to shell out 50 bucks for much the same content they had payed 50 bucks for about a year ago. I in fact never bought EAW, had a friend's copy, so buying OP was my investment in the series. Whether they felt screwed or not is beside the point. It did not make sense to them to do so, so they didn't.
If you go an GSA, there are like 10 people playing OP to the 40-60 on EAW. If that is not an indication of sales and people's sentiments, I don't know what is. My own personal experience on GSA with OP was exactly as you might expect. I go into a room, play some adv era matches, and ask about doing some other eras. Everyone says if you want that, go play EAW. So I did. Be that as it may, I hope people do go for OP, if we can get everyone over to it. I myself bought OP at the full price and wish others would switch over.
Additionally, there is little or no D2 available for OP. There are about 2 servers available, one of which requires FireSoul's OP+ refit shiplist. That seems indicative of Chris' comments. While modders go for OP, players go for EAW.
I don't dispute that OP has more to it, but I think you may be trying to justify your purchase with your claims about OP's good points. The fact is the cost-benefit analysis at the time of OP's release led people to pass on it. Perhaps now we can get more OP players as the initial investment is small. However, I suspect that as the last patch for EAW is soon on the way, the last patch for OP is soon to follow. Taldren's priorities are with SFC3 and unless they turn it over to Khoromag, I would expect little future support for the title.
Just my opinion.
