conversion from .sod to .mod
« on: July 20, 2003, 11:48:23 pm »
Hey brothers and sisters, I got some models that are in .sod format, and am aching to tramsform it to an .mod... Klingon Fanatic told me about ""CV'' but I believe that I cannot ue it, because it utilizes Direct X 9.0... and that sqiurrels out my computer settings and such. If someone has a link to ""CV''', could you be a dear and provide it? Better yet, if you know of another way to do so, please inform me, I can get temporary access to almost any program. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very thankful.

Lithium Unwrap will convert *.sod to an editable form such as *.3ds. You can get it online however it costs $30 to enable the save function. I have tried the trial version, it looks pretty nice. Sorry, I don't have a link for you.

Found it.. Ultimate Uwrap's freeware version has conversions for Milkshape, 3DMax, STArmada, SFC, Neverwinter Nights, and several other ones... pretty neat program... the modelling/editing part kinda stinks, IMO, but its there, its useful, and its free.

I have older free version of LithUwrap, it willopen armada 1 and 2 sods and can save to 3ds, then you can use another program to export them to mod. However, I don't think you can release any of those conversions, a lot of armada modelling peeps get very touchy about converting their sips to other formats....:s

But of course on the plus side, there's nothing to stop u using thme for yourself alone! hehe

Catch me on icq if anyone wants the old free lithunwrap 148271754

The Armada modding community doesnt want people converting their ships without permission and sometimes not at all  as it is not their purpose to be converted to other game formats.... personal or otherwise, some models are Armada exclusive only.

Being a Armada modder for almost 3yrs I agree with the modelers and Mod teams, if you want to convert models for anything consult them first just so they can keep track of their models.  The Millennium Project for example has had several run ins with people who've stolen our models and claimed them as their own with this utility.  Thats plain wrong, I'm not saying you'll do that but please have the courtesy to ASK/consult the creators of the ship before converting, you will get alot further by doing this than just converting the ship without permission.

Thank you Smiley, and you too Viper... I understand what you're saying... I believe they were Terradyne's models, actually... I wrote him to see what he thought... tht really does bother me considerably that someone would claim as their own. I sure as hell couldnt do tht anyway, you all would eat my lunch- its known that I can't model, and when I do figure it out, its going to be obvious for awhile who the amateur is, LOL!
The one I was most jumpy about is a model of that Giant Amoeba for the third TOS episode.... thought it'd be a real groovy model for Pelican's mission, ''Intruder Alert"". HE sure does do a really nice job on those missions; if anyone wants them I have them zipped up.. hope he gets around to making some more someday.

Thanks for your input and advice folks... its nice to be here. Just give me some time, and I'll contribute back to you all... I'm just not real technical-minded.

If you want I can speak to Terradyne also as we frequent the same forums, might be able to organise something for you more promptly.
