Polaron, Gravimetric, Quantum, Photon Torpedoes???
« on: July 21, 2003, 12:25:26 am »
I understand the basics of Photons and Quantums, but can someone explain the differences in a little more detail, and how they react when they hit a shield?  Thanks!

Photon has damage 9, recharge rate of 2 turns, power draw is 8.

K-Photon has damage 6, recharge rate of 1 turn, power draw of 6.

Quantum has damage 13, recharge rate of 2 turns, power draw of 10.

Gravimetric has damage 10, recharge rate of 1.5 turns, power draw of 8.

Polaron has damage 12, recharge rate of 1.7 turns, power draw of 9. (10% CHANCE TO PIERCE SHIELDS)

LIGHT PLASMA has MAX damage of 11 (depends on range), recharge rate of 3 turns, power draw 7.

MEDIUM PLASMA has MAX damage of 15 (depends on range), recharge rate of 3 turns, power draw 10.

HEAVY PLASMA has MAX damage of 20 (depends on range), recharge rate of 3 turns, power draw 16.

So, a Quantum Torpedo inflicts the most damage except for a Medium or Heavy Plasma Torpedo...  but it draws the same power as a Medium Plasma Torpedo.  What about accuracy and range comparisons???

Perhaps if you look at the thread at the top titled SFC3 Heavy and Special Weapons Hit Charts ..........

I did check that out...  Since I have been playing, that 5% chance of not hitting out to range 5, happens more often than the percentage says...  The other day, I played with my brother online TCP/IP, and I couldn't hit him within range 5 if I had a hand full of sand...  Nothing was hitting.  I flew a Romulan Valdore, and then I flew a Klingon Bird of Death.

Yes but if at range 5 there is an AV of 150 there is a big modifier to hit.

Was he just sitting there or moving???

Also, if your brother was using heavy useage of EM (Eratic Maneauvering) it is extremely difficult to get a hit.  I play Romulan a lot and I try to employ lots of EM because Romulans can't take the damage that Feds and Klingons can.  AV + EM = hard to hit.

Yes, he was moving.  I am not sure how much if any EM he was using...

Keep in mind the rate of fire.

Quantum, at 13 damage every 2 rounds, does 39 damage in 6 rounds.
Heavy Plasma, at 20 damage every 3 rounds, does 40 damage in 6 rounds.

Now look at the power difference.

Also remember that the Hplas MAXES at 20 damage... the Quantum will ALWAYS do 13 damage.

The only use for the plasma is when you can use cloak effectively to force your opponent to ALSO fire only once every 3 rounds, which is easier said than done given the efficacy of the Anti-Cloak.

The primaries add up similarly.

Also your crew is a factor.

As they become more skilled, your chances of hitting and range improve.

Also overloads can seriously increase your damage output.
