Gents, many of my elementary teachers had the NY accent to varying degrees. When I pronounce "iodine" or "ln x" to students who are from other places, they try to mute their giggles. I usually have to admit my poor breeding. Well, one didn't. This teacher was an immigrant from another country- Boston. I'll tell you, she sounded weird. Funny, she kept criticizing the way we all spoke!
