the mauler works on available energy stored in batteries. Batteries recharge with EXCESS ENERGY, the unused energy.

.. so the best way to recharge the mauler? Use less or no shield reinforcements, slow down a notch and let the mauler recharge. If it's safe to do so, do a full stop and let it fully charge while you have no reinforcements.

Although the newest and best patch will be out soon, you still should install the (soon to be outdated) 2538.

There was a bug that prevent batteries from recharging. The patch (either old or new) will take care of it.

Best choice for recharge mauler is turn down or off the shield reinforcement.
Works all the time for me.

Ask an SFB Klingon player (I'm not one) if he misses turn breaks.
