Usage of model renders
« on: July 10, 2003, 01:59:59 pm »
I have recently been playing  Galactic Civilizations a turn base stratagy game one that i truely find quite enjoyable.so as with many game comes the desire to mod the game particularly to add ships.here is an example of the ships i have coverted for my personel game. ingame image .the game engine is 2d base, alot like the Civ series.over the last few years i have collected 800mb of loose models for sfc-sfc3 and like 1gb of mods.i do wish to give credit where credit is wanted and due.many of these files lack readme files identifing the authour of the model ,texture, and design which complicates the previous statement.here are the questions i have to this community:

1)since Galactic Civilizations is 2d any ship models made from  3d odjects like the mod file for sfc3 would be a render(64*64 pixels) top down and then rotated into a 32 frame filmstrip, the actual mesh is never used ingame. So those of you that have released ship to the public, is there anyone that would odject to this type of usage?

2)Kitbash, for these would it be proper to ask the one who altered the original ship  or the author of the orginal model and textures for consent?

it really comes down to are renders of your models even though low res something you would like credit for?if the common consensus is yes then those that do come with readme files and have contact info i will contact.

if you do see your ship included in the example above and have no desire to see it used in this game mod just ask and i will remove it from the ship roster and it will not be included in the public mod.

your thoughts and comments are appreciated
