So I went back and played SFC 2 again today,
« on: February 01, 2003, 02:11:12 am »
for the first time in 4 months, and its a shame I forgot what an engaging experience it really is.  I had a very, very embarasing/humorous moment.  SFC 3 has dulled my strategic senses to the fullest-that in one SFC 2 match, I forgot to look (scan, prob, almost didn't even look at the screen after I locked onto my target) at the enemy's ship (enemy was ISC, previous games he didn't take S's) before I just went charging in, and got smashed by S's torps, then I torps, and a full complitment of Caveats III's.  Game over.  My opponent actually asked if I was physically ok after the match.

SFC 2 is definately a more compelling game, I'm sorry that I ever left its sweet embrace.

GH; fyi for all that have forgotten.

I will have to go back and try EAW again.  I loved it.  But after reading your post I think that I shall begin my reacquaintance with SFC2 in Single Player mode.

I too started playing SFC2 again, and I am having a blast, it makes SFC3 feel like more work, less fun (and it was supposed to be the simpler game).

It felt good to pilot a Hydran Heavy War Cruiser again.... ahh....

I found the same thing true with SFC.  I never got into SFC2, just went from SFC to SFC3.  When I tried to play SFC, I forgot most of what I had learned.  It comes back quick, but after 6 weeks of SFC3, going back to the old SFC felt like a step up, if you know what I mean.  Lots more to do, a lot more strategy in my opinion.  I tried the typical SFC3 strategy of close and pound and found myself quickly turned into my constituent atoms.  I think SFC3 is a decent game, but as far as continued playability, SFC (and probably SFC2 if I ever pick it up, which I might now) is head and shoulders above SFC3.

OK, so you talked me into it.  Are you ready for some Battle Carrier action?

Sweet in-action shot... I like the ISC alot too.  They are my third favorite race (after Hydrans and Zin, alright, Mirak).

something struck me as odd when I saw the pic the first time. but i couldn't say what... but now I know.
F-BCV isn't supposed to be the excelsior model. it's the arc royal model. (and if the central ISC is the carrier, its model is off too. no ISC ship uses the starcruiser model has fighters)

now I got that off my chest... Nice screenshot!

In lieu of a patch for SFC3 I decide to get back into EAW. Log on to the SFC2.net 7.25 server. First mission is a scan, so hit R, turn slightly off from the planet and hit the W key ....... idiot.

This server will use the I-BCV. In fact, all races have their own version of a battle carrier (F-BCV, I-BCV, M-BCV, K-BCV) or PF cruiser carrier (R-THV, G-BCHV, L-BCV).

I am working on a website now for the server but here's the latest topic thread on it until I get the site up.

That sounds much like some of the ships which will be in the next OP+ shiplist.

.. the shiplist is pretty much ready, but some things need to happen before I release it.
Oh well.. don't worry. You'll like it.
