Question for everyone regarding SFC3
« on: June 30, 2003, 01:15:01 pm »
Hey guys, I used to play SFC1 and SFC2 quite a bit and even played quite a bit of league games. For those of you that were around, you probably understand my frustration with all of the problems we used to have regarding bugs and Dynaverse.

So here I am today. A friend let me borrow his copy of SFC3 and I have been messing around with it the past couple of days, so far I love it (even though I miss all of the different races we used to have, ESPECIALLY  the Gorn with their bad ass plasma boats.) However, what I would like to know from all of you is whether SFC3 is running reasonably smooth with the BETA patch and, more importantly, is Dynaverse running smooth with SFC3 and are there many people still playing on it. Finally, are there that many people playing league matches anymore with SFC3.

Thanks in advance as I might go ahead and buy SFC3 so I can play on the Dynaverse and league games and you opinions will help me.

I still play SFC1 and SFC:OP a lot, but I still extensively play SFC3 too.  I would say that the Beta Patch is must for online play.  I think their is more stability with the Beta patch and it helps balances things more with it then just the game version.  I don't know about Dynaverse, since I have yet to be able to connect to it, but GSA works better with the Beta Patch.   Trust me, its really does help SFC3 a lot.

Hiya Horatio

The Beta patch does a lot of good. It's been a little while since I've last played, so I don't know much about any problems left over or caused by it. But it is a nice improvement

D3 is lots of fun- there are a few modded servers out there that are worth checking out- try the Dynaverse 3 Forum for that info. As far as leagues go, none to my knowledge. GZ (the heir to SL) did give it a go, but interest died out.

Bottom line- if you like it, go for it!

Out of curiosity how populated are the beta patch servers?  Everytime I log on to the beta servers I see only a handful of players as opposed to the non patched servers. And before anyone suggests TNZ I can't get the frickin mod to work right on my machine....   Thanks!

Are you asking about the latest Server Kit for SFC3 ie how stable is it, can it run 40 players without crashing, does SQL really work etc?

Or are you asking about gameplay from the clients point of view only?

Mainly gameplay and stability.  I really should play the beta patch, but without counting the popular TNZ mod is there a non modded populated server with more than 5 people on the patched servers?

Hey Guys,

First of all, the Beta Patch is essential for on.ine play.

It fixes some major issues, perhaps the largest but being the pre-patched ability to follow cloaked ships, using the "follow target" feature in your navigation controls.

The most fun to be found online is definately with MODed servers.

TNZ is amazing and gives you Gorns Dominion Cardassians Maquis, just to name a few.   It's well supported with dedicated admin.  TNZ MOD should work with your machine, so if it doesn't, the answer most probably lies with "your machine" rather than the MOD.

DOMINION WARS is amazing and gives you even more ships and races.

All you need to play any of these MODs and still be able to play "normally" is to create a copy of your Assets file and title it "Assetsorig".

Then, download and run the MOD of your choice, and just switch the Assets file for the Original when you want to go back to normal.  Take care, if you load a second MOD, that you load it over an "original version" of the Assets folder.

The reason so many people play the MODs instead of just the "normal version" is that these MODed games give you what we expected in the first place:  i.e. more ships, more races, more fun.

I would be happy for anyone having trouble loading a MOD to give me a shout through the message system here.

If I can't help you myself, I'm sure I know someone who can.

Hope to see you online.

The beta patch really helps alot. Of course if you guage game play by Game spy it can be sorta annoying. A few members from my fleet have had some awesome games over direct play using IP connections aside from GS. You can have both Game spy and SFC3 open at the same time the game didn't exhibit the same level of lagging. In other words, it was SWEET!
