Anti-Cloak Scan Question
« on: July 06, 2003, 09:37:47 am »
What principal is this working on?  Is it scanning for Neutron Radiation?  So, the more you spend on your cloaking device when Modding your ship, the less effective this scan is??  Am I on the right track??  What about a weapon that has abuilt in scan for Neutron radiation?  It would be similiar to the MK-46 Hunter Killer torpedoes that the U.S. Navy uses, or the modified Photon Torpedo used in The Undiscovered Country....  When you fire it, it goes into search mode until it aquires a target with it's scanner.  The releasing ship send out a signal to the weapon so it does not accidentally lock on to the ship that fired it.  Pretty cool concept, that works...

anti cloak works thus:

Lvl 1-3 computer cannot detect cloak

Lvl 4 or 5 computer vs Cloak 1-5

1 is easier to detect than 5 but ship size affects this also,

the ops officers on both sides also affect detection/non-detection

Borg race are naturally better at detecting cloak than other races

Roms have the best cloak compared to klingons but klingons have generally smaller ships

This is a science in its own right

This is why I like 3 the best out of the SFC series

I recall Dave posting that Klink and Rom cloaks are functionally identical. Weight (maybe power cost?) is the only difference.

What do you mean by levels?

Of course, when they say that klingon cloak it less effective, its only marginal - someting like 2%-5%.

According to the tutorials the anticloak works by sending out a ping that bounces of an enemys hull (like sonar. )

Check out the Bridgeitems.gf file in assets\commonsettings, it will tell you all the specs for the cloaking devices and computers.

If I read it correctly L5 cloak has a rating of 100, droping by 10 for each level. Rom cloaks are harder to damage.
L5 computers have an anticloak of 100, Fed/Rom/Klink L4 have a rating of 60, Borg 70, and Borg L3 computer 60.
Probes have a 10%? chance of  detecting cloaked ships, if fired towards the location of the enemy.

Like bigcheese said ship size and ops officer skill also effects cloak and anticloak ratings.

The speed of the cloaked ship also has an affect on the anti-cloak scan. The faster the cloaked ship moves, the easier it is detected...supposedly.(I could be wrong since I'm going from memory...haven't played 3 recently).

Nice to know my memory is still intact....

Here is Mr. Ferrell's comment:
Quote:

The two cloaks (Klingons and Romulans) are virtually the same with the only difference being mass required.

Thanks,
