James Formo, or about SFC Italia..... just a small note
« on: June 30, 2003, 12:58:29 am »
When one learns English,  a Latin based language, after writing and speaking Russian, I have found that attempting to read another Latin-based language is not as difficult to me as it could be to another.. probrobly just an opinion, please take it as such. Point being, I figured out how to get an account with SFC Italia so that I could download  a few of their models. They had Romulan models I didn't believe I had seen, so I tried to DL them... link was bad on several ones. After about three days, I wrote in my lightest English a letter to the guy(s) in SFC Italia, asking them (him)if he knew of a way I could catch the missing models. This is the reply I recieved.... I thought it would interest James Formo (hi) and anyone else about the status of this apparently kindly gentleman's circumstances..... just in case.

" fear there's no chance, since I don't own them anymore, I simply made a mirror on the site's fileserver without downloading most of them personally (I never used a lots of mods in my online games and in the italian league we managed to build up).
Since they decided to shut down support for ANY fan site they hosted, removing even all of the files hosted on their fileserver (that was gone pay and became the puppet of the translator-mafia industry that owns italian gaming market).
The only guilt of SFC is that is not beign translated-localized by anyone in Italy, so the importers does not have any interest on supporting it, even in a almost pay-only gamespy clone.
The websites of the authors were gone much more my site's problem so I can't help you on how find them (and I'm really sad for this).

Sorry about that (and for reversing much of my anger on you) even if has passed almost six months from when I logged on my ftp account and found it was deactivated (without any notice) together with my fileserver password, my heart really aches, I worked with Multiplayer.it a lot (for almost two years) and all that we received in exchange was total misconsideration (believe me, they sutted more than 100 sites in this brutal way).

Have you tried asking for them on the Taldren message boards? Most of my models came from here, mostly from a guy Pneumonic52, not sure about the number, that was called to work on ST Bridge commander (or ST Armada 2? I don't recall correctly) as modelist...
http://www.taldren.com/
I believe they resetted the forum but some of the old acquainted may be still lurking there.

Hope to be of any help!

I was hoping he would at least own them himself, but, oh well.

Again, my private tutor years ago who mastered Russian, a little Ukraininan, Latin, Spanish, and of course English, said all romantic languages are based heavily on Latin. Just another point ot add in.

agreed, you all have excellent points, and i'm not contesting that all languages have influences from other languages but to end this discussion  :

That last post reminds me of somethig kinda funny.... remember that old Foghorn Leghorn cartoon where he is playing with that crazy hen's little son (the chick with glasses and a beanie)? That last post reminds me where Foghorn was hiding in a toolshed, the boy finds him by digging a little hole in the middle of the pasture.... he all of the sudden digs in, and pulls up Foghorn out of nowhere, and Foghorn says "I say, I say, that just don't add up boy, that dont make no sense''... and then the boy writes down all this jibber jabber with algebra and calculus...Foghorn then says "Oh,..... well,..... I guess it does, don't it?".

Not sure if this thread is about linguistics or obtaining models from the Italia site.

If anyone is looking for the Italia models, I sent a copy of all of the models that I could download to Korah.  Four of the model files are corrupt, but good old WinRar has a repair function.  I was able to salvage at least the identity and a few models from the corrupt files.  The two advanced Fed frigates are from the Paperboy2000 collection (does anyone have these?).  The Saber file was in pretty good shape after repair.  The Hydran advanced cruiser is pretty interesting.  It is a P81 Hydran X Cruiser.  I think this is his model that was included in OP.  The corrupt file was missing textures.  Just for fun, I applied the OP textures from the X Cruiser to this model, and it is a perfect fit.

Speaking of linguistics, has anyone created a voice mod for crew voices using authentic(!)  Klingon voices?  Is Klingon a Romance language?
