Cheyenne Class WIP
« on: June 24, 2003, 06:41:54 pm »
Thought I lost this when my power supply went, but I found it intact. Mesh was done a while ago, but just started working on textures. As I've stated before, my texturing sux, thought I am getting better...so if you like the model but not the textures, re-work 'em after I release her. Also, these textures will probably suck worse since this is the 1st time in a couple months I've done anything...RL getting in the way and all.

BTW, don't get me wrong, these are just the beginnings of the texturing process...it should look alot better in a couple of days.

Didn't Taldren ban this prick after the 2 near-flame wars he's started? One of you admins get this f**ker's IP and ban him permanently. And circulate his IP to as many other message boards as you can find so they ban him too.

I agree?there is no place on this forum for insulting remarks and/or general unpleasantness.
I do npt want to lecture, but the forums are here to foster goodwil, friendships and creativity.

And Sandman...ignore the remarks this person made about your ship. They are not objective in purpose?Their sole purpose was to anger you.

Your ship gotten off to a fine start. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of your progress.

So speaketh the eternal slug...oh well, actually I feel honored. Lightdrone only does this to those that actually do something good, so I take it as a compliment. Beside, I shall not engage in a battle of wits with someone who come to the field unarmed. Oh, and if you're too dense to figure that out LD, it means you have the intelligence of  a moth bouncing off of a hot light 'til you're ass gets burned.

To everyone else, thanx! This is really my 1st TNG style ship, and it's hard to get things right. I'm remembering some of the tricks I was starting to learn before my leave of absence, so it should start looking better soon. Despite the comments of LD, I feel good about the mesh, just the textures are bad. Until I get a better grip on things in Photoshop, I do a lot of the work in PSP, then tweak in PS.

More to come soon.

Oh my, that comment was not intended to be  a slur, I wouldn't do that, but I do know that it is pretty punctual- got his attention:) Fight fire with fire, and all that. I wonder if you, Sandman, are going to put TNG-style nacelles, or TMP?

The nacelles are how they are supposed to be, according to the shots at ex-astris scientia, except I made the bussards larger...they were only little dots at the front of nacelles, and I thought they would look better as they are now. They are definitely TNG, as the class was designed as a companion scout for the Galaxy Class...unfortunately, not very effective in that role as it's top speed is lower than the Galaxy, so was reassigned as a Frigate. As such, I'm going to be making some changes to the canon look and fell to make it a more capable Frigate...canon is way overrated anyway.

Where did you get the info that it was slower than a Galaxy? It wont be from the show as nothing is known about it. Oh well. I personally really like the look of the studio model, and the bussards are not dots on the model, they are the front of a highlighter pen actually but...

Daystrom Technical Institute has info on most ship classes. And yes, I know they are the front of a highlighter pen...the whole nacelle is a highlighter pen. I just thought that the full bussard looked better that a small area at the front...personal choice really.

Starship Miranda also has some good info on ships, though I think a lot is fan based. I really want to do some of the ships there...waiting til I'm better at texturing though.

the DITL is a pile of crap quite frankly, I never use that site except for the occasional articles like the one on the Nemesis Enterprise. The stuff there is almost completely made up by the one guy writing the site and is very arbitrary, especially his opinions on the DS9TM kitbash ships.

I had just asked about TMP nacelles because to my partially-Trek-educated eyes, I actually couldn't tell exactly what generation if any- no offense meant by my lack of intuition, just curious.
Oh, and and another additional comment to anyone who is curious, I got real loud real fast for Snadman- he was the first person to ever coach me on modding SFC series, and has always been patient with me, even when I could tell he didn't really feel like a '20 questions'' round- I owe it to him to be at his defense any day or time- you all know what I mean, right?

No offense taken or percieved.

This is taking longer than I thought, due to the "rust" faxtor...got rusty, not working on anything for so long.

I'm wondering if I should make an untextured ship file on my yahoo group...that way if you like a mesh I do and have some texturing skill, you can get the model a texture it yourself? Does that sound like it might work? I ask because I feel that my models don't get out there due to my lack of texturing skill...I have some untextured models moldering on my hd since I can't texture worth a %$#@. Let me know what you think, I have no problem with sharing credits...I welcome it, so that my stuff can get done. That way I can quietly work on my skills, then dazzle y'all with a work of art.

BTW, I have to re-work the whole texturing (thankfully I made a backup), as I screwed it up bad...forgot to do something and now it looks like something a Ferengi wouldn't give a 1/4 bar of latinum for.

COWABUNGAA DUDE!!

Hey..

Just a quick note.. to make it easier to retexture with those blank meshes for those without Max, just block them out.  You don't have to texture the whole thing, but map basic textures.  A 64x64 red square even done up in Paint will do for the bussards, similar for the blue glowies on the nacelle sides.  A grey texture with one or two circles on it will make sure that the textures for the saucer are mapped without distorting.  Something similar with a couple of horizontal lines down the texture should do the same for the secondary hull.  A 256x256 or 512x512 texture is pretty, but the mesh doesn't care one way or another as long as it's mapped.  So if you take a little care and make sure that they are all illumination mapped, you can have the mesh out there in a state that is easy as pie to have anyone texture for you.

Smiley, I'll put it up tomorrow...just got home from work and too pooped to poop right now.

KF- I sent the Remora to Atheorhaven...I just can't do it justice. He has a lot of projects going right now, but hopefully it won't be too long...I want to see it flying myself.

Alec- Thanx for the tips. Even though I use max, this helps...gave me some ideas. One day I'll be able to release something and feel good about it...I hope.

Well, this is going on the back burner for awhile...screwed the textures badly. I'm just too out of practice, so I am going to start with something easier to do. See my new WIP post for details. I guess I'm going to be doing these old ones for awhile, work my way up to TNG...more complicated textures for more complicated ships. Thanx for the support. Smiley, it's on the way.

Thanx again.

Great start. Hey Smiley. I have a Norway mesh that could use texturing. I kinda suck at Fed textures. I have a version with an open shuttle bay I would like to get it released. Any chance you got time to give it a shot?

Thanks James, once I have finished Sandman's Cheyenne I could have a go at your Norway for you, actually I quite like doing different things at once, adds a bit of variety to things. Plus when I get fed up with doing one I can move on to another and then go back later! Feel free to send the model my way  daniel5042@yahoo.co.uk

You can try  sanders_j5@yahoo.com if yahoo allows that large a file. If not, can you upload to the yahoo group  SFC MODELS ?

Thanx for all your help and hard work. I have a readme to add with proper credits, then release her. I'm stoked!!

Sure no problem, I've finished off the Cheyenne now (hardpoints, damage textures, break model et al) so I can start tomorrow *looks at time* err - today! Gotta make a start on one of Mackie's too! hehe busy busy!

Wasn't sure if you wanted me to do the hardpoints or not Sandman but I had to add the damage ones anyway so I thought I would do the others while I was there
