OT... the Movie "Aliens" and the Encore Station.
« on: June 17, 2003, 02:00:13 am »
Hey guys, I've been a long time fan of the movie "Aliens" written and directed by James Cameron.  I consider the whole movie as one of the greatest Science Fiction stories ever.  Now I'm wasn't really suprised that Encore was showing this great classic, but I was shocked to see a HUGE number of added scenes to the movie that where originally cut from the final production run.  In all, the movie almost lasts 3 hours and looked like it might have been re-enhanced or something because the picture is a lot clearer this time.

Anyway, for anyone that might know, did 20th century FOX issue a "Directors cut" or something like that on DVD?  If so, I have GOT to get me a copy of this classic.  Any info would be appreciated.

Wow, I'm not sure if there was a DVD, but I did hear that many scenes had been put back into the LaserDisc version of the movie, way back in the day, but they were left out of the VHS version, I think they said it was because the dirctor liked LaserDisc or something like that.  Anyway, some of the scenes did show up in edited for television versions of the movie, and they rocked.  I like the addition of the sentry guns in the hallway, and stuff.  I'd love to get a full version of the movie somday.

Ya, maybe I should try to record it too on Encore, but I would love a DVD version of this baby.  Just think, this remastered version on letter box on a DVD... WOW!!!  Man, if 20th Century Fox hasn't don it, they should consider it.

So no one knows if a DVD collectors addition even exists huh?

Yes, there IS a DVD collection of the Alien series. Circuit City almost always has it in stock.

However, be prepared to pay about $80US for it in CC, which is the reason I have yet to purchase it. Nor have I purchased any of the TOS on DVD that CC usually carries, as they are far too much for a 2 episode DVD.

Hey, all I want is the movie "Aliens" because I thought it was far better then the others.  Is their anyway just to get this movie anywhere?  Would Ebay.com or Half.com have a few copies?

The only way I know of by which you can purchase retail the deleted scenes of the Alien series is to purchase The Alien Legacy: 20th Anniversary Edition (see info prvided via the link to my DVD collection below).

I like the additions to both Alien and Aliens.

Hey, didn't they come out with a Directors cut edition on VHS for Aliens about 3 or 4 years ago...it lasted all of maybe six months on the shelves, and had all the deleted scenes in it?  I thought they did.

I don't recall if that was ever available on VHS or not.  I had moved on to DVD by then and don't even consider VHS anymore...heheh..except when I want to watch the original Star Wars trilogy or Schindler's List, of course...

Magnum357,

I assume you're refering to scenes such as the miners finding the Alien ship and the sentry guns?  These are actually included in the "Aliens - Special Edition" DVD.  I picked it up at Best Buy (I don't remember how much).  It comes out to be about 150 minutes long. Hope this helps.

Excellent!!!  Thanks for the info.  I've looked on ebay.com and other places and those sites don't give a lot of insight if they added the extra scenes or not.
