sfc textures, mipmaps, etc.

I had an old TNT card when I played SFC1/2 a few years back, and one of the drivers seemed to create a beautiful chain of mipmaps automatically.  In SFC, this meant that the federation nacelles didn't give me a headache (those alternating blue lines bled together nicely, instead of creating all sorts of jagged nastiness).

SFC looks worse on my newer machines, despite the more advanced card -- can anything be done to increase the number of mipmaps, or perhaps to force a higher AA setting (doing so through my driver settings has no apparent effect).  I'd like to go back to sfc2 (like a geeky salmon I seem to do this every 12 months or so), and it would be great to get it running the way it used to.

I guess cleaning up the fed textures would do the trick also, since it's just the nacelles that irk me.
