Here is a nice little freeware program for basic texturing
« on: September 22, 2004, 03:58:38 pm »
Its called Irfanview. I been using an old edition for 4 years so am going to get the latest version myself and see what the plugins do.
Its good for changing texture colors fast. Has brightness, negative, contrast, gamma, sharpen and blur. Effects include 3d button, oil paint, emboss, edge detection and a few others. Also good for resizing bitmaps and viweing thumbnails. It also has a slideshow presentation feature. The latest probably does more. So not bad for free. Get it below.

i took a look at it, nice idea aswell i dont have any use for it but im sure the new upcoming talent who dont know about our fancy programmes will enjoy it
What kind of fancy programs do you use?  I just downloaded Gmax, does it come with it's own texturing program or do I have to get something else like this free thing that this thread is about.

Neither do I.  Another question I have is how do you get the textures on the model if the modelling program doesn't offer any texturing programs in itself?

This is called mapping. Milkshape is a 25 dollar program that can map textures.  This link is a tutorial on mapping in milkshape.

As far as that freeware program Irfranview. Its more for changing colors or editing textures that are already created. I use PSP 7 for my texturing. Decent program fo around 80 bucks or whatever it is now.

I usually use PSP7 to make my textures, but I've messed with these two free programs and have liked what they can do. On occasion I'll use all three to try to come up with a different look/effect. :screwloose:

I'll check these out- I  never turn donw freebies :)

Hey Rage where you been? Nice Rommies in your sig. I am wondering how that mod you and Kreeargh were working on is coming along. What happened to
Kreeargh?  Havn't seen him in ages. I saw he had an untextures fleet of Hydrans posted at one time. Did he finish them? Not many do Hydrans and I am looking for more of them.

For the most part I usually post when I've uploaded stuff for Jeff (111wallace111). Most of the time that's all anybody wants to hear from me.

Basically I'm in retex hell with all the ships that have been made for the mod. I have about 30 Feds, 25 Klingons and a *couple* Roms to do. The Roms in my sig are going into the mod if we can ever get it done. The big one in the upper left is an X era DN and has been retexed using stock Taldren X era textures. Unknown Warrior got into a little bit of a frenzy when I asked him to come up with some Roms and that's a small sample of what I received Scorpion has been working on some Rom FASA designs for me too and they're looking quite good as well.

Kreeargh isn't around much these days because he had a death in the family a while back, so he's been a bit busier with real life issues. This is why I'm not sure about the status of the mod. Besides Kree, I only have Unknown Warrior and Scorpion helping me out. I had quite a few others agree to help along the way, but I won't go there If we ever get stuff released, I'm sure you'll want one or two of the ships. The Hydrans he had made were textured, but they need to be remapped to really show off how cool they are. Unknown Warrior has a few ships that might go into the Hydran slot instead. If that happens, then I think once we get Kree's Hydrans finished they'll be released before the mod.I'm currently working on a making new textures for the Guam through deck carrier. Kree made it several months ago and it will be released when I'm done. After that I think I'll be working on the textures for a FASA Bader that I started quite a while back. Kree will have to give his final approval of course, but that won't be a problem. There's lots of stuff left to do, but things aren't looking good at the moment.

I guess if you look at Unknown's sig pic that I whipped up for him, you'll see three of the several new Lyran ships that he made for the mod.

Wow then I am really looking forward to getting my hands on that mod, those Lyrans look really nice and the romulans are very interesting, I find the "gun" mounts to a good touch with those designs!

I hope it comes together 8)

The mod has only taken a year and a half to get about half way with the four of us, so I'd hate to make any premature announcements of when you might be able to get it. I'm hoping that we might have something by the end of the year, but I'm not optimistic.

I found another free program I have on this computer that I forgot I about. It's called ImageForge and can be found on Cursor Arts' free download page located here. I guess you could call me a freeware junkie with all the free stuff I use.  ::)
