I played sfc3 for a while and am waiting for the patch so I bought sfc1&2&OP.

So far I have only played sfc2 & OP as the federation and have really enjoyed the "carrier" ships.

Which race has the best carrier ships and fighters?

If you like fighters, play Hydran.

All there ships carry fighters, and Hornets rule!

Hellbores are also great (think shield inversion beam, only most of the damage going to the weakest shiled)

But if you want to have lots of fighters on your ships, you have to pick a fusion ship (Fusions do a ton of damage, but the ideal range is 0)

Direct X 9 patch is for those who have installed Direct X 9 on to their systems... the SFC Direct X 9 patch allows SFC 3 to play under the Direct X 9 enviroment and is HIGHLY recommended by taldren to use for online gaming...

David Ferrell stated that he Highly Reccommends that everyone wishing to play SFC 3 stabily online upgrade their systems with Direct X 9 faound at [url=http://www.microsoft.com/directx/

then patching SFC 3 with the direct X 9 patch from either my web site or the Activision web site...

SFC 3 would crash using Direct X 9 on the playing system with out the SFC 3 DirectX 9 Patch as the game looks speciffically for Direct X 8.1

Direct X 9 gives better stability for direct play across the internet (some more stability should be evident with the squashing of bugs in the upcoming SFC 3 patch)

Direct X 9 has connection issues with previous versions of DirectX, especially Direct Play, and since the majority of SFC 3 players online are using DirectX 9, it has been reccommended to upgrade.... and patch for DirectX 9.

Thank you for clearing that up. My immediatte reaction at seeing Patch is to cringe, but in a nutshell if its working now with Direct X 9 it ain't broke (  I must have installed the patch somewhere and not realized it, which itself is a little scary    ).

I agree you can Saberdance, ie. go for the long range sower shieldwhittling and eventual internal/hull damage in SFC3. The saberdancers regular dancing partner is usually the starcastle. But, it doesn't work like that in SFC3. SFC2 had an inexhaustible, though limited by other systems requirements, shield reenforcement energy supply. This was  pulled from the warpcore at anytime. In SFC3  the extra energy comes from the other three shields. And the only way to replenish  the available pool of shield energy is to wait. The rate of damage most enemies can output is greater than the shield regeneration rate.

You can actually shoot at the front arc to prep an attack on the rear shields. And since the castler is sitting still, they won't be able to prevent the dancer from hitting the now weakened shield. Starcastling don't work no more.

Not to mention the whole AV situation, and how weapons and movement are powered individually. Going fast only really helped in SFC2 with plasma and drones, in a direct-fire slugfest turning speed and arcs were most important. Just like in SFC3, except SFC3's arcs are all wacky.

Another problem is that becuase there is zero info on the game mechanics and numbers, we really can't say for sure which race is the best saberdancer ***Cough*** Feds***Cough***.  We can't even say what range is considered saberdancing range anymore. And again, we must mention the whole AV situation.

Starcastling in SFC3 is different in SFC3, least in my opinion. I guess what I really should have called it is Kaufman Retrograde

I followed the instructions provided to install all of the patches for SFC1 but it won't allow me to play singleplayer campaigns or skirmishes?  Anyone know what the problem is?

SFC1 requries your CD to be in the drive to activate singleplayer campaign and skirmish. (and 1 CD for every 3 players for multiplayer)
SFC2 has no such restrictions.
SFC3 requires everyone's CD to be in the drive at all times to play.

Actually I'm pretty certain I don't need it in the drive after the CD verification, at least I believe I have been taking it out afterwards (or I used to be, for some reason I've been leaving it over the past two weeks when playng, just don't want to take the trouble...which is why I wish it had a NOCD thing on it).

I just bought SFC2 as well for the first time and I am having a cd key problem.  The one I enter that is on the case is registered as the wrong one, so can't play the game at all.  Can't even get to the game.  Did anyone else have this problem when they bought SFC2?

I don't think it's case sensitive, but make sure you enter all the "dash"s (-)as printed.
Also make sure the one you have is 20 alpha numerical digits long. (NOT 16) If it's 16. Then it's a Orion Pirates CD Key. Try to get an exchange where you bought it.

Dash Jones I think you are right! I was wrong about "all-times". (also there is a no-cd for sfc3 1.00 in existence.)

yeah, I have tired it with the dashes, without them, with spaces, without, caps, no caps.  Damn thing just won't work. And it is a 20 alpha-numeric code, so that isn't it either.  Unfortunately I bought it over the web from Amazon.com.  So, I am not too sure what its return policy is on opened software, not to mention that its customer support people would be unlikely to be able to understand or care about a CD key issue that is the fault of some other company.  They do not guarantee your purchase in any way except that you will get it.  So kind of stuck until Taldren or Interplay can give me a solution.  But, thanks anyway.

You do have to keep the SFC1 CD in to play single.

Are you having this problem with XP or Win98?
