Gamer Z
« on: June 11, 2003, 07:10:24 am »
I bought SFC2 and loaded it up. I have gone through the tutorials and gone through a campaign or two. Wow! Do I feel like a real threat now.

I found out about Game Spy and went there. I registered. I logged on and went to the correct room. I tried to get a little information on a league called Gamer Z but basically got blown off by the people there. Is Gamer Z full and not taking any new people?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and I appreciate you taking the time to read this.

P.S. Are there any updates to this game?

SFC2 EAW is up to 2.0.3.6 in it's patch level. Look at SFCx.org or Xenocorp.com for it.

On the off chance that you mean Orion Pirates - it's up to 2.5.3.8 and can be found at the same place.

As for the other thing - no idea.

What race(s) do you like flying? If Hydran, then currently CB (Canadian bacon) would be the fleet I recommend, for a friendly and very helpful group of people. I'm out of touch now with the GZ scene, so can't really help you anymore. Look for CB-Golem online on GSA and ask him questions. Tell him I (Moggy) suggested you talk to him and he should be friendly and help you out.

GZ isn't worth the effort. Just ask the top 3 players in the last real cycle GZ ran, about why they never got their medals they busted their tails for.  Then note that people who 'won' the subsequent cycles did.  GZ admins just went on 'break' or something, and never awarded these deserving pilots their awards.  And despite dozens of promises to fix the situation, they still haven't done so.  Avoid GZ, they can decide to just stop monotoring their site at a moments notice, and all you fought for will be lost.

Thank you for the feedback MadElf. I assume (correctly I think), that any gaming site could close at a moments notice. I am not sure what the reasons for the medals were, but I am not worried about such since I will just be there to have a good time and maybe learn how to operate in combat effectively. Shouldn't take more than 200-300 losses. As far as I can tell, it is free, so I guess I will get what I pay for if I have any issues.

Come play on the dynaverse. There are way less problem players, you will get plenty of help, and it is a competitive arena, with ai to beat up on when you need a break from the intense PvP action that does go on in campaigns. I, MAdElf and others who frequent D2 were all ladder players at one time or another, so there's plenty of experienced players to show you things.

Yeah, GZ is free to the individual player, but the fleets each have to pay to register for the league.  So this is a paying league, which doesn't render service.
Dynaverse is more fun (in general) with the occasional stop-off to GSA for some PvP (even a GZ game or two).

if i'm not mistaken, fleets are notrequired to pay anything.    They are asked to make a donation to keep the server running (10 bucks ain't that much)

Well from the other side gz is now under new management, and if someone blew you off I am very sorry.  Best bet is look for rooms with "recruiting" in the title.

But Mog is right CB is the best!

Gamerz still exhists, but was recently purchased by Virmicop ... The GZ League decided, in their words, that it was a "corporate liability." Whatever that means. I mean they had the most popular ladder in GameSpy, and somehow messed it up. The admins generally are never around or afk.

On that note, GZ Leagues also screwed up the SFC3 league before it ever got started. Waaaaay to go guys ... nice work on killing good ladders.

So, I still play with RDA, but not much anymore. Virm wants $$ now, but I understand has prepaid for 90 days. He bought all the stuff from GZLeagues, but I'll bet $100 it won't last 4 months. Good luck anyways Virm. I'll give ya credit for trying.

Virm, if I lose the bet, you can have the $100.

Ok, time for some clearification.

There are two different GZ sites/leagues.
This is the SFC, SFC2, SFC/OP GZ.
 GamerZ
This one is free, last I heard.

This is the SFC3 GZ.
 GamerZ
You have to pay to have a fleet here. It is free for the single player basic services, but there are pay services and they are always pushing for you to upgrade (just like GSA).

Actually.

GamerZ does not host any SFC games anymore.  They have moved onto other games.  They sold AFCUB, the site that holds the ladder league to a "VIRM-iCoP".  The players on gamespy have united together and are basically paying $70/month for a great service that we all enjoy.

www.afcub.com  is the site for those interested in joining.

Sorry your experience was not so great.  But i've been doing ladder matches for years now (since sfc1 and SL about 4 years ago) and i have always enjoyed the competition.  Its fun especially 2v2/3v3 games with your wingman and fleetmates.  You don't have to join a fleet to play either, can be a MERC.

Dyna is fun for  a bit, but gets boring to me and too easy.  I played on it a lot with GT when we owned some servers with hydrans.  I tried playin every race on there, never really found any competition.

Looking to play the best of the best?

Log on to gamespy and play some games against the people who are in gamerz.

(we still call them GZ's even though gamerz doesnt own the league)

Jz, good to see you're still playing.  Want me to speak well of GZ?  Then DK-MadElf Needs his @#!& Winners icon for being top in the cycle that I busted my ass for.
