Does anyone ever use Pulse Phasers anymore?
« on: June 10, 2003, 01:26:45 am »
I personally not much of a fan of them.  ya, they have that 10% of peircing sheilds, but so what?  that means only 1 or 10 shots is going to hit the hull.  Also, the Firepower is only about a Type 10 phaser.  Maybe I'm not using them properly but it seems that I miss more often with them and just forget them and use Standard Phasers.

Heck, I'm thinking about just moding it where Pulse Phasers do a maximum 15 points of damage (50% increase) because right now, I don't see much benefit to them and I hardly see anyone else use the too.

Just keep in mind that the graphics for bolt/pulse weapons miss when they miss but the graphics for the beam weapons rarely ever miss even if the weapons miss or cause zero damage.

hmmm... I think I understand what you mean, but I still disagree.  I may be wrong on this but I think Phasers and Romulan Diruptors work differently then Klingon Phasers or Pulse Phasers.  It seems to me that Phasers and Rom Dizzies work much like how the SFB/SFC1,2, and OP phasers worked.  In those games, Phasers always hit but their damage effects could drop significantly to pratically a "0" damage effect.  I could be wrong, but I think SFC3"s Phasers and Rom Disruptors work ilike this instead of a "hit or miss" like the other weapons.

And also, I think Pulse Phasers and Klingon Disruptors are very suseptable to AV.  I'm not saying this is bad, but right now whenever I design fed ships I don't see much use for the Pulse Phasers.  might also be a reason why I like Rom Disruptors better.  Even though my Dizzies might be reduced in strength by AV or EM, I might get a couple of damage points on the target with them, but Klingon Disruptors and Pulse Phasers its etheir "HIt or miss".  Damage or now Damage, no partial Damage allowed.

I'm just saying maybe Taldren should boost the Pulse Phasers and Klingon Damage output a little.

No, all weapons can miss.

Some visually miss, others hit for no damage

I don't know Alidar, I really think Taldren might have made those weapons more like SFC2 and 1.  Mabye I'm wrong, but I really think you can score partial damage with them.
