New At BattleClinic.com: BB Analysis
« on: June 10, 2003, 09:34:34 pm »
I've done a study on the idea that Federation BBs are inferior to their counterparts of other races (not counting the clearly superior Borg).

Guess what the answer is and then click below to read the study to see if you're right! BBs Study @ BattleClinic.com

Well, KoraH, I have to say that I agree with you.

Federation ships can be VERY deadly if piloted correctly. Also, the federation enjoys a comfortable lead in CA power.

I'd still like to see a larger, more expensive fed BB. In theory, they're a large empire, and their economies could support a ship that has Mizra Strike Torpedoes - 2 forward, 2 aft, 1 left, 1 right. This could be coupled with phasers like the odysseus.

The last thing we need though is another Giant Defiant. It's just not a fed ship -- they even had to bring in Borg technology to make it work.

But that's just my oppinion. Your mod rocks.

The reason I did the analysis is because I kept hearing Fed players complain that their BBs just don't live up to the other races'.  I didn't believe them at first, but after doing the homework on it, it was clear the Federation BBs were indeed outclassed by about 8%.  It's important to note I haven't looked at other hull classes yet, so maybe the Federation outclasses the other races in one or more of those.  I also want to emphasize that I believe this to be what KoraH honestly sees are being completely fair to the Federation, as well as the other races.  I have presented a different take on his balancing work.  If you want to say the Klingon Empire builds better BBs than the Federation, great!  But let the Federation dominate in another ship class, perhaps DN or BCH, to even things out.  But if the Federation is getting outclassed in every ship class (a result which KoraH clearly did not intend, since he goes to great lengths to be fair to all), then no one can honestly call that fair.

The component argument doesn't go far when you consider Klingon components are the least massive in the game, yet the Klingon BBs have the most engineering space and hull space available outside of a Scimitar.  A clear imbalance, in my opinion.

Another important reason I did the analysis was because I believe in TNZ.  I believe that it is the best mod out there, and I also believe it has room for improvement.  I want it to be the very best that it can be.

And as a Romulan player Alexander, you should be concerned about this, too.  A Klingon Bird of Death has more Engineering Mass available to it than a Warbird does, and it's Klingon components take up much less space than Romulan ones do (though the Romulan BBs are more closely matched to the Klingon ones, having a 5% superiority over the Klingon BBs, thanks completely to the Scimitar; the Klingons would dominate the Romulans completely in that category too if it weren't for that one ship).
