Melak problem?
« on: June 06, 2003, 12:43:10 pm »
Has anyone else noticed the new Melak has a dark screen-like shadow extending from the neck  down the sides of the head and right down the middle of the head? Its not related to textures because I re-textured it TNG and did new light maps ...same problem.
I also tried to re-D/L SFC2 and SFC1 versions..same thing.

Sounds like a smoothing error. If a mesh doesn't have any smoothing groups set, the 'shadows' will give the mesh an odd appearance. SFC 3 makes this even worse because it ignores smoothing groups which means there isn't a way to get rid of them.

I dont think SFC3 ignores smoothing groups per-se' I think it assigns it's own smoothing groups or something. I've experimented with smoothing in SFC3 models for some time now, but so far I havent figured out exactly what makes some models come out with the correct smoothing and others not. I'll post it here when/if I figure it out.
