Closure of the old forum doesn't mean that the help and discussion about the pending shiplist for LB5 needs to die off...

We'll be looking here, especially for you Die Hard... :)

And thanks for helping us find everything...  It'll help everything else go over smoothly once the server starts...

Diehard already sent be the fixes for the spare parts. I will be changing the classes on the ships tonight and doing some of the other fixes that are needed.  Then we will put out another one for everybody to take a look at.

Hopeing to have final installers for both games up by this weekend and test servers going early next week.

Well, it sounds completely WHACKED. However, I will happily dload the installer and playtest it ASAP when you put it up.

Regardless of how it works tho, I will be a-playin away.

Agreed AJTK, when I first looked at this thing when I was putting it together, I just shook my head and said WTF have we done!  ;)

But I have a funny feeling we are on the right track here as far as balancing some of the age old concerns from the slower hex flipping races, and their enjoyment of the game.  So I really want to give this a chance.

So any help, questions, or concerns, please post them.  This shiplist was done for the community, and we need your help.

Question Fluf....

If we bump all the move cost 1 ships up to CA class, won't that make the lower end ones drawing tougher AI? This could be a pain, especially in early era.

And that is EXACTLY why I am giving it a chance there Fluffy, lol. You guys have obviously put a butt-load of work into this, and while Im not too sure about you... I know Tracy_G and t00l are relatively sane so Im signed up!

Time will tell if your right, or if DH is right.

But like Francis said "All I know is I finally get to kill somebody."

Yep thats why I dont want to do that.  Just because it has a movement cost of 1 doesnt mean its a CA.  Some of the ships especially in early really suck on the lower end.  The point is to try to give these ships easier and faster mission times.

One effect this might have is players might be flying more line ships, as they will be drawing lower AI, cost less and be able to earn PP quicker, which is part of the goal to help the plasma races.

You will notice in this list, the drones, fighters, and escort ships got a healthy bump, making them more expensive, and they will draw tougher AI.

Might not hurt to fly a line ship then!  ;)

Also Fluffy (this probably isn't the place for it but..)
1) Are we expected to fly on both SFC3 and OP servers? CAn we be a different race on each?
2) I know you're mod isn't out yet -but in the interest of trying SFC3 I have to
a) install SFC3 clean
b)intall first beta patch
c)Install 2nd beta patch
d)install LB5 mod

is this right?

You dont have to fly on both servers, but it will help.  Its not so much which race but which side you pick, Alliance or Coalition.  I dont care which race you pick, just so the sides even out on both fronts.

It would be nice if all the D2 would give SFC3 another try.  I think you will like what we have done with the SFC3 side of things.  Its entertaining.

And yes, Hexx thats the way you will install it.  Full instructions will be posted when I release the downloads.

Nope, not doing it.

Heh, guess today makes it damn well obvious that our buying SFC3 to get GaW didnt pan out, eh?  :banghead:

Oh well. Cant wait to see the answer on this one, I hope it is either cause I am OUT if its both.

No you dont have to fly both.  However, it will be important to coordinate with the D3 guys, as VCs must be taken on both maps.  Also, I expect some of the D3 crowd to come to play on OP for the first time.  So I expect you people to help them out and teach them the ropes.

The whole point of this campaign is to help both games out and expand our playerbase and make some new freinds.

And I also would like some of you to try out SFC3 again.  I know its not the game alot of us wanted.  But myself and the Battlezone team spent alot of time making the mod for this play a little more like the D2.  So dont knock it until you try it.

OK, I'll stick my foot in my mouth here.  My understanding of the DIP shiplist is to make sort of a rating of ships based on combat effectiveness.  Most of what I have seen in that respect has been to up the BPV of ships to account for how human players use ships.  What I haven't seen or am not aware of is some assessment of combat effectiveness that maybe scales with the tech available in each era.  For instance a number of klink ships I looked at have basically been untouched as per BPV.  Is the the D6B at 128 really equal to the D5C at 127?  Is the D6K at 135 equal to the D5L at 133?  And how do the cloaking cruisers get such a high rating when no one touches those with a ten foot pole?

I am sure that I probably don't understand the full intent of the changes made in the DIP.  Perhaps someone could tell me why this above issue is or isn't within the scope of what the DIP is addressing or has or has not addressed yet.  Thanks.
